Young horses are one of our passions here at Lightacres. From the age of ten, Sue Lightner has dealt with young horses. Growing up on a small quarter horse breeding farm, her introduction to foaling, halter breaking and handling the colts and fillies started at a very young age Sue started her first filly undersaddle when she was twelve years old. The training facility at Lightacres has produced successful young horses for 30 years.
Lightacres has bred horses on a small scale for many years. The 2010 winner of the International Hunter Futurity Three year old performance is a fourth generation Lightacres prodigy. The top four finishers in the 2010 International Hunter Futurity West Coast were born, raised and trained at Lightacres.
The 2011 International Hunter Futurity West Coast 4 year old Performance Champion was bred and trained at Lightacres, along with the 4 year old Reserve Champion. The 2011 3 year old Performance IHF Champion West has also been raised and trained at Lightacres, for owner Jennifer Grubb-Reed. Since 2007, Sue Lightner has been showing youngsters in the Hunter Breeding Division very successfully. The National 2010 USEF Champion Yearling and Three year old were bred and handled by Sue Lightner. Sue is excited about the interest in this program and at the shows on the West Coast, and hopes to see more and more people using this division to promote their young horses. Lightacres offers a full program for preparing young horses, whether it’s just to make them into nice individuals, or to pursue showing in hand. As the USEF leading breeder of Hunter Breeding horses in 2010, Sue is very interested in promoting young horses and helping those new to breeding to select complimentary mare and stallion pairings. Here at Lightacres, we can, and have, educated colts and fillies from their first experience with a halter, all the way to winning over fences. Our horses are known for their manners and willing attitudes. Stop in for a visit, call or come watch the babies showing!
