July 2007
John Turner came and taught our riders on July 1st. Everyone at all levels had a great time. John is a great teacher and it was fun to have him come and share his thoughts and ideas with our riders.
Commuting to the Woodside shows kept us busy in between training and lessons. The young horses went up for the Hunter Breeding Classes every Wednesday for 3 weeks in a row. Reggae by Ragtime was Best Young Horse every week! Rhythm of the Night by Ragtime was second every week and Rico Sauvé by Ragtime was 3rd. Our jumpers made the trip on the weekends. Sercona, owned by the Leapperz Group was 2nd and 3rd in the 7/8 year old young jumper classes. She also placed 6th, 3rd and 8th in the three Grand Prix. Pia’sadorable finished up the circuit by claiming 2nd in the $20,000.00 Golden Gate Grand Prix ridden by Carol Wright.
The next adventure was our trek to Pebble Beach for the first week of the Summer Circuit there. Everyone looks forward to Pebble; it’s beautiful and a welcome escape from the valley heat. The horses and riders had a good showing there. Ragtime, Pam Sand’s wonderful stallion was Champion Regular Working Hunter for the fourth time at the Summer Pebble show. Anne Reid’s Rubicon was Reserve Champion in the First Year Green and Kaydee Blickenstaff’s Take Notice won a First Year Green class. Ashley Norris rode her new jumper Life of Riley to the Pre Children’s Jumper Championship and Lisa Haas was 3rd in the Modified Children’s Jumpers. Ashley and her hunter Dior won a Modified Children’s Hunter Class. Samantha Porteous got ribbons with The Governor and Leslie Field enjoyed her first outing to Pebble Beach on her Whitzabouter. Reggae by Ragtime was once again Best Young Horse and Rhythm of the Night by Ragtime was second in the Two Year Old class. Jennifer Grubb’s youngster, Cabernet, got prizes in the Baby Green, as did Sue Lightner’s Simpatico with Carol Wright riding. Sercona, owned by the Leapperz Group was third in the Grand Prix and Sue Lightner’s Pia’sadorable finished 11th. Pia was also 5th in the Derby.
Joelle Hylton jumped for the first time at a show at Pebble Beach. There were trials and tribulations – but Joelle and Neopoliton ended up with ribbons!!
Lightacres’s thanks John Porteous and Melinda Scurry for having us all over for food and drinks at their newly decorated home in Pebble Beach.
