Lightacres welcomes Mimi Harwell, our assistant and rider!  Mimi is originally from New York and spent much of her youth as a working student for Michael Page.  After graduating from Rice University Mimi has decided that horses are her true calling.  Traveling to Showpark with us, Mimi showed Reggae to the Championship in the Young Hunters.  Welcome Mimi!!

The International Hunter Futurity was a successful event for Lightacres horses and for trainer Sue Lightner, who was named Best Handler.

Jen Grubb-Reed’s Glenn Morangie was named Best Young Horse.  “Ellie” won every yearling class the two weeks at Showpark, including the Sallie B Wheeler yearling class.  She is currently leading the national standings in the yearling division.

Reggae continued his winning ways at the IHF!  Ridden by John French (fresh off his win of the $100,000.00 Hunter Derby Championship in Kentucky), Reggie was the IHF 4 year old Champion!  He also was Champion Young Hunter ridden by Mimi Harwell.

Raggedy Music held her own at the IHF.  She won the two year old filly class, handled by Sue Lightner and was second in the two year old undersaddle ridden by Mimi Harwell.

Rico Suave was Reserve Champion Young Hunter the first week at Showpark, ridden by Leslie Nelson.  He won both classes the second day!  Leslie also rode him in the IHF 4 year old classes, getting good prizes.

Perhaps the most touching part of the two weeks at Showpark for trainer Sue Lightner, was tying for the new Ted Fieger award for Best Handler at the Sallie B. Wheeler Championships.  Ted was a very dear friend who led Reggae to numerous wins in the Hunter Breeding.  This win was a very special thing.

Thanks to Diane Yeager and Constance Kilmartin for helping to make this possible.  Thanks to Raizy Goffman for creating a beautiful bronze for this award and to Dianne Grod, the motivating force beihind the creation of this cherished award.
